Asha's Story
Nominated for Apprentice of the Year award @ Caru Ceredigion Awards.
I joined Depot because I’d heard very positive feedback from ex-employees, especially those who took their first job here. Going through a life-altering event that had me unsure of my capabilities in employment from now on, I knew it would be the perfect place to get back on track- it has been.
The friendly, relaxed atmosphere combined with effective organisation in management makes Depot a great work environment, I didn’t feel I was being relied on too much or not enough and any mistakes or differing techniques/methods made by me were handled always with kindness and became learning opportunities. This has made an enormous impact on my life going forward, both personally and professionally, as I have gained new and honed my previous skills as a barista and cook, learned the importance of your environment and communication in an effective workspace and regained the self-assuredness and confidence I’d lost earlier in the year.
Leaving Depot is bittersweet, as I’ve made so many friends and become so comfortable in just 3 months, but I will take the skills I’ve gained here with me throughout the rest of my career. In 2 years, I should be a school counsellor; the specific conversational skills needed to work in a youth support organisation like this have made me feel much more confident for when that time comes.
